What Is OligioX? Monopolar RF Skin Tightening Explained

OligioX has mostly appeared on this site in comparisons — against Ultherapy Prime, or alongside Xtherma for arm tightening. This piece stands on its own: what OligioX actually is, what the research behind its monopolar RF technology shows, and who it’s best suited for.

What Is OligioX?

OligioX is an FDA-cleared monopolar radiofrequency (RF) device manufactured by Wontech. It delivers RF energy through a single treatment electrode, heating the deeper layers of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue to trigger collagen remodeling. Over the following weeks, this produces a gradual tightening and smoothing effect without incisions, needles, or downtime.

At HALO, OligioX is most often used on the jawline, cheeks, neck, and around the eyes, and can also treat looser skin on the body. Most patients describe the sensation as warm rather than painful, and there’s no recovery period — you can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.

What Does the Research Show?

Monopolar RF — the category of technology OligioX belongs to — has a substantial research base. A 2022 study in Dermatology and Therapy evaluated monopolar RF specifically in Asian patients with lower facial laxity: all 30 participants (Fitzpatrick skin types III–V) reported improvement immediately after a single treatment, with continued improvement through 6 months of follow-up (P<0.01) and an average pain score of just 3.13 out of 10. No serious adverse events were reported.

A separate retrospective study in Dermatologic Surgery followed 35 patients treated with subsurface monopolar RF for the face, neck, and jawline: 77% reported improvement and 64% reported satisfaction with their results at 180 days post-treatment.

How Does OligioX Compare to HALO’s Other RF Devices?

HALO offers several RF-based skin tightening options, and each takes a different approach: Density combines two RF modes in one device, XERF layers two RF frequencies for both surface and deep heating, and Xtherma uses monopolar RF across the face, neck, and body. OligioX’s monopolar delivery is closest to Xtherma’s, though the two devices differ in handpiece design and energy delivery pattern. Your provider will typically factor in your degree of skin laxity, the treatment area, and how much downtime you want to plan around.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Good candidates for OligioX have mild to moderate skin laxity and want a non-surgical way to improve facial or body contours — common concerns include early jowling, a softening jawline, enlarged pores, or general loss of firmness. It’s not a replacement for a facelift in patients with significant sagging, but it’s a strong option for patients who want gradual, natural-looking improvement with no downtime. A consultation with one of our providers is the best way to confirm candidacy and map out how many sessions you’ll need — see our OligioX service page for more on what a session involves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does OligioX hurt? Most patients describe a warm, sometimes hot sensation during treatment rather than pain. OligioX also uses a cooling system to protect the skin’s surface and keep treatment comfortable.

How many sessions will I need? This varies by treatment area and degree of laxity — some patients see meaningful results from a single session, while others benefit from a short series. Your provider will recommend a plan at your consultation.

How long do results last? Results build gradually over the weeks following treatment as new collagen forms, and typically last several months to a year depending on individual factors like skin quality and aging rate. Many patients repeat treatment periodically to maintain results.
